How to Play Under One Sky

Under One Sky - PlayingCards.io rules

Objective

Be the first player to arrange five star tiles of the same color so they match the configuration and orientation shown on your constellation card

Components

  • 1 5×5 game board
  • 28 Star Tiles (27 Star Tiles, 1 North Star Tile)
  • 9 Constellation Cards (3 sets of 3)
  • 3 Star Chart Cards (1 per constellation set)

Setup

If needed before starting, use the Reset Game button to tidy the game and shuffle the tiles and cards.

  1. Choose one of the three star charts. It is recommended to play your first game with the orange star chart and constellations.
  2. Place the chosen star chart on top of its stack next to the game board. Use the Rotate Charts button to select any 90° position for this game. Every star chart can be played in four directions.
  3. Each player draws one constellation card from the set matching the star chart's color, and puts it in their Your Constellation hand area (hidden from the other player). One card should remain face-down.
  4. Orient the constellation card in your hand to match the N-E-S-W compass on the star chart. Use Z or X on your keyboard to rotate the card while 'holding' it with a mouse-click.
  5. Draw three star tiles with the Draw Tile button.
  6. The player who most recently looked at the night sky goes first.

Gameplay

On your turn, complete three steps:

  1. If there are fewer than three star tiles beside the game board, draw until there are three.
  2. Make one of the following selections:
  • Select a tile beside the game board and place it in an empty space on the game board.
  • Draw the tile from the top of the face-down stack and place it in an empty space on the game board.
  1. Complete the action associated with that star tile’s color.

All actions are mandatory if a legal move is available.

Tile Actions

Blue Star Tile Action

Choose one surrounding tile and move it one space orthogonally (up, down, left, or right).

Orange Star Tile Action

Choose one surrounding tile and move it one space diagonally.

Yellow Star Tile Action

Rotate the board 90° degrees clockwise (use the Rotate Board button).

Additional Rules

  • Two star tiles can never occupy the same space.
  • The North Star tile cannot be moved. It remains in the center and counts as all three colors.
  • Surrounding tiles are any tiles that touch the placed tile orthogonally or diagonally. A tile may have up to eight surrounding tiles.

End of the Game

At the end of your turn, after completing all mandatory actions, check for victory.

Victory

You win by arranging five star tiles of the same color on the game board so they match the configuration on your constellation card when it is oriented to the star chart (N-S-E-W must be arranged in the same direction).

Draw

  • The game ends in a draw if all spaces on the game board are filled and neither player has completed their constellation card.
  • The game ends in a draw if both players complete their constellation cards on the same turn.
