(EN) Nomenclature Challenge
Nomenclature Challenge is an educational game that allows students to review organic functions and nomenclature through a fun peer challenge.
How to Play (EN) Nomenclature Challenge
The Nomenclature Challenge is an interactive organic chemistry game that can be played in two ways:
- Independent Mode: Students play on their own devices without the teacher's intervention.
- Classroom Mode: The teacher controls the card draws and projects the screen for the entire class.
Mode 1 (Connected Students)
In this mode, each group uses its own devices (smartphones, tablets, or laptops).
1. Preparation
- Group Formation: Organize into teams of 2-4 players.
- Identification: Each player chooses a number from 1 to 4. At the top left of the screen, there are 4 numbered scoreboards where each player will record their points.
- Creating a Room: One player acts as the "Host." They must click "Start Game" (Start Game), then "Enter," and share the generated room code with the other group members.
2. Gameplay
- Setup: Define the total match time before the match starts.
- The Draw: The host clicks "Draw a Card". There are three types of challenges:
- 🟧 Orange Card: Provide the IUPAC name of the displayed structure.
- 🟩 Green Card: Draw the structure of the indicated compound.
- 🟪 Purple Card: Write the names of all organic functional groups present in the structure.
- Difficulty: Points vary based on the stars on the card (1 star = easy; 3 stars = difficult).
3. Round Dynamics
- As soon as the card is revealed, the timer starts automatically. All players respond simultaneously on a sheet of paper.
- Once the time is up, click "Answer" (Answer) to flip the card and reveal the solution.
- Checking: Swap papers with teammates for peer correction.
- Scoring: Players who answered correctly click on their respective digital scoreboard to add points (equivalent to the number of stars on the card).
4. Victory
The game ends when the session time expires. The player with the highest score on the digital scoreboard is declared the champion!
Rules: Mode 2 (Teacher-Led)
In this mode, the teacher coordinates the pace, and students focus on solving challenges on paper.
1. Preparation
- Groups: Students are organized into teams of 2-4 participants.
- Projection: The teacher projects their screen, clicks "Start Game," and then "Enter."
- Note: In this mode, the digital scoreboards on the screen are not used; point counting is done manually by the students.
2. Running the Match
- Draw and Timing: The teacher sets the response time and clicks "Draw a Card."
- Solving: Students complete the challenge on paper (Orange, Green, or Purple card).
- Reveal: After the time runs out, the teacher clicks "Answer" to reveal the correct answer.
3. Scoring and Victory
- Students swap papers to correct their peers' answers.
- Each correct answer is worth the number of stars on the drawn card. Players record their points on their own paper.
- The process repeats until the time set by the teacher runs out. The student with the most points wins.
💡 Pro-Tips:
- Always have paper and a pen ready before the drawing begins.
- Speed is important, but precision in IUPAC nomenclature and structural drawing is what secures the points!
